Don’s Biography:
Born into a cowboy family, Don Loewen grew up with a keen interest in horses and saddlery. At 14 years of age his interest led him to make his first saddle. Having kindled a passion for the feel of leather shaping in his hands, Don, then 17 years old, set off for Saddle School in South Dakota where he honed his skills as a saddle maker and artisan. Life took him back to ranch life where he cowboyed in southern Alberta and at the Douglas Lake Cattle Company in B.C. Later Don spent time in the forests of B.C. logging.
In 1995 he returned full-time to his passion of saddle making, opening a shop in Merritt, B.C. located in the beautiful Nicola Valley. Here Don lives with his wife of twenty years and his six children, including a son who recently completed his first saddle.
Don Loewen’s saddles are well known for their comfort, durability and ability to stay positioned through out a full day’s ride. Don works closely with Bowden Brand Saddle trees as he is happy with the trueness of the trees, giving each saddle a solid foundation to build on. Of the more than 500 saddles Don has made in the past 20 years, most of them have found a home on working ranches in B.C. and Alberta.
Don continues his fine craftsmanship of saddle making, finishing each custom piece with pride and style.

"Don Loewen has always had a reputation for building a good using saddle. I looked at a couple of Don's saddles that the cowboys in the valley had ordered and had been using for every day ranch work and I was impressed with the quality of the rigs and how they were standing up. I've been riding my Loewen saddles for some time now and haven't got one complaint. The saddle sits on a horses back well and I've never rode in a more comfortable seat. Don's saddles are reasonably priced and you will never get a better person to deal with."
